Paxata recently hosted a webcast  “Accelerate Digital Transformation with Big Data Fabric” featuring Forrester. Moderated by Piet Loubser, SVP and Global Head of Marketing at Paxata, the webcast featured guest speaker Noel Yuhanna, Principal Analyst at Forrester and Nenshad Bardoliwalla, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Paxata.

Noel Yuhanna began the webcast by noting that data is increasingly critical for driving today’s business strategy, but it is a double-edged sword. The sheer volume of data is staggering – there is about 3.5 zettabytes of data on the public net today – and while this explosion of data means more cost, slower data access, and increasing data challenges, it also presents a tremendous opportunity for organizations who are able to successfully leverage that data.

Unfortunately, more than 30 percent of big data projects have failed due to a number of reasons, including lack of budget, technical skills, management commitment, and data/architecture complexity. Moreover, 80 percent of enterprises struggle to get an integrated view of information from big data and other sources.

What is the main culprit? Data silos.

Most organizations are creating multiple repositories and platforms for their data, and are thus producing more data silos rather than a unified platform for insights. The consequence is that these disparate technology stacks compromise timely, integrated data delivery to business users, customers, and partners.

Noel then introduced a new, modern big data architecture – “Big Data Fabric” – that is overcoming the data silo issues. He described Big Data Fabric as:

“Bringing together disparate big data sources automatically, intelligently, and securely and processing them in a big data platform technology using data lakes, Hadoop, and Apache Spark to deliver a unified, trusted, and comprehensive view of customer and business data.”

He went on to explain the Big Data Fabric architecture, top seven recommendations for working with the Big Data Fabric, and a number of use cases.

Nenshad finished the webcast by expounding on the Paxata Adaptive Information Platform’s unique features, benefits, and use cases for Big Data Fabric.
